This is what historical romance should be. Overall this was an enjoyable book and I’ll read the last one in the series. As usual it was another wonderful book to read, however I find myself bored at times reading this book.

Her carriage spooks his horse and he ends up unconscious on the side of the road. This is an enjoyable read but I found my attention wavering from time to time as it does drag slightly in ahwkins.
There was also a smuggling mystery that ensnared the reader. Arabella Hadley our heroine was in love with Lucien Deveraux, the Duke of Wexford our hero when she was younger.
He loved her and left her 10 years before. You already recently rated this item. The summary led me astray. Hawkins’ strength is characters, and this is a tale that will give you that twinge of angst right behind your breastbone because these two characters obviously love each other so much and This is what historical romance should be.

Aug 25, Angela rated it it was amazing. This book took me seven days to finish and I am so glad it is done. Arabella Hadley should have married her first love years ago, but he abandoned her four years ago and married someone else.
Sadly this book addresses the question, can the jerk who ruined our 16 year old heroine and then dumped her to marry an heiress plausibly become hero material?
