Written in a very lucid language this book is a must read. It’s a poignant story of determination th Jeh to serve the nation, as he continued as the chairman of Air India International, despite an apathetic and sometimes hostile Indian Bureaucracy. This book talks about Jeh’s passion, commitment and unwavering dedication towards the principles that he always held close to his heart. The man’s penchant for perfection and dedication to country and his work comes out clearly through the pages. One gets to experience a slice of history -years after Independence-especially in the areas of industrial and public policy sector – the state of industries and how policies were made then.
Believing that what was good for India must be good for Tatas, he took the bureaucratic slaps without j.r.x.tata and still did his best because he did not know any other way to live.
Lala had the good fortune of working with JRD and knowing him personally too. He used to authorise a known, and reliable persons to the very important jobs, and watched them to perform from a distance.

I had to stop reading in between, as the narration changed from interesting events to rather mundane. The last section looks at Jeh as a loving patriarch, a model citizen and an inspiring leader of men.

He was a stranger to India, and the Indian customs, traditions were unknown to him, leave about Parsi customs. The Tatas were single handedly responsible for most of the early tools placed at our citizens disposal.
It looks like there was a time when the Government acted as a bully taking away years of toil with scant compensation, and happy that may be such times have passed A man who has probably done more in a single lifetime than lots of people would do in multiple lifetimes.
What appealed me the most about JRD is he was an adventurer at heart and used to regularly exercise till x twilight years.
I loved the way JRD’s early life, and his interest in flying has been described. The books are a must read for all of liife to understand what all Tatas had gone through to establish some of the earliest industries.
