It kept me on edge and engaged in the book. Finally, you manage to calm your friend down, and then you demand your cousin leave immediately while you console your friend. I enjoyed the alternate reality and that the second book follows the same family but two new characters.

It was suddenly very easy to picture her in a gown with petticoats and ringlets in her hair and diamonds at her throat.

She is described in the book as a wild warrior in leather with bone necklaces, tattoos all over her arms, and most importantly, serious scars on her neck and arm from where the dogs dragged her out of her own grave.
