I remember when Hem first entered in book one, I really didn’t like him much and was rather disappointed to find that The Crow was all about Hem.

This third book is completely about Hem, the brother. If you like fictional books about magic and sorcery and the struggle between good and evil, or in this case dark and light The Nameless One vs.

In this book, what I did love seeing was the struggle between the Light and Dark taken on from a different angle – not only from the outside like in the previous two books, but also moving within the Dark itself and looking closer into its workings. All the suffering that Maerad goes through does not grow her as a person, it is just suffering not growth. Zelika is a girl who escaped to Turbansk because her previous home was destroyed.

I loved the setting and the themes of family and love and I loved that I was actually getting to witness the effects of war in a fantasy novel.

The ceow is confusing. Hem — Hem is Maerad’s twelve-year-old brother, found in the middle of the desert by Maerad and her mentor, Cadvan. It’s such an honest and endearing love between the two of them, you can’t help but feel every emotion that the two of them feel.
